ON SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2019 AT 10.45 AM, ON A SMALL BOAT, WE REACHED A SHORE AT THE BACK OF THE ISLAND OF MURANO, IN THE VENICE LAGOON.
THE PLACE IS ARTIFICIAL, IT HAS BEEN CREATED IN THE PREVIOUS CENTURY, DUMPING INERT DEBRIS, FROM THE GLASS FACTORIES OF THE ISLAND.
AMONG STONES, BROKEN BRICKS AND TILES, IT IS EASY TO FIND A VARIETY OF GLASS NUGGETS AND FRAGMENTS SHINING UNDER THE SUN.
WE COLLECTED A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF THIS SMALL TREASURE, IN VARIOUS SIZE AND COLORS. AMONG THESE PIECES WERE SOME INCREDIBLE GEMS OF COLORS, Pieces That are no longer in production and nowadays almost impossible to find.
WE CAREFULLY CLEANED THESE FRAGMENTS AND ARRANGE THEM IN SMALL HEAPS INSIDE A KILN. WE BROUGHT THE TEMPERATURE UP TO 810°C FOR 15’ AND LET THEM MELT.
THE NEXT MORNING, OPENING THE KILN, WE FOUND 25 NEW PIECES.
Glassa a unique collection, made for Christmas Presence, a charity project organized by @misslibbysellers and @mcdidero featuring exclusive decorations by artist and designer.
Glassa, with the precious support of @nicolas_lauzeral and his kiln, and @agomau and his boat.
